End of an Era - Principal John Wallace Retires

Image from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Facebook page
As our outgoing Principal retires from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland,'Whittaker' thought it appropriate to look at some of the remarkable things trumpeter John Wallace has done.  A peek into the Whittaker Library catalogue seemed a good place to start:-

Summer 2014 has been a period of handover from John Wallace to the new Principal, Jeff Sharkey. Today we've received John's last 'Weekly News' - it really does seem the end of an era, but we look forward excitedly to the new dawn!

Trumpets, Tubas, Cellos and a Glasgow Night Out

Whittaker offers you a few more musical limericks at this light-hearted time of year:-

A lass in the proud Philharmonic
Slipped out for a quick gin and tonic;
Her tuba was flat -
It had angered her cat -
Though the high notes were quite supersonic.

A student who worshipped his cello
Came home feeling genially mellow;
I say, he proclaimed,
Glasgow parties are famed,
Serenade me till dawn, my good fellow.

No woman with flair on the trumpet
Would want you to call her a crumpet;
You might think she's cute
'Til she picks up a mute,
Picks her target and offers to thump it.

Musical Limericks No. 3: the Brass Section

The Trumpeter
Thanks to http://www.eardrum.com.au

A jazz-buff who majored on trumpet,
Declined damson jam on his crumpet.
A jazz-player's 'jam' isnae damson, said Tam;
And I'd rather not mess up the drumkit.

The Haughty Hornblower

A Teuchter who played the French horn
Regarded the pipers with scorn,
'Til they kidnapped his mute,
Called his embouchure 'cute',
And defied him to skirl on the lawn.
