Find me a Trumpet Duet!

Sure - not a problem.  You can search our catalogue using our special instrumentation index.  Let's show you how it works.

Type Trumpet2 for any ensemble that includes 2 trumpets - including all our brass quintets!
Type Trumpet2, piano if you want trumpet duet accompanied by piano.  (This also eliminates all the brass quintets that will otherwise be retrieved.)

Want to have a go? Here's the Whittaker Library catalogue - click here!

We posted about our instrumentation index in a more detailed blogpost last week.  Do take a look if you need to know more about it.

When Boston Brass Came to Play

http://www.bostonbrass.com/

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland welcomes Boston Brass today - we've just had a fantastic lunchtime concert, and next there's going to be a masterclass with some of our best student ensembles.

Has the Whittaker Library got recordings of this epic group?  Of course we have!  Click here to see what we've got.

We also have a large stock of brass quintet music.  Remember the instrumentation index?  Search like this:-

"Trumpet2, horn1, trombone1, tuba1"

Don't forget the inverted commas - they tell the catalogue search engine how to search.  Results here.

And did you like the Stanton Moore piece, Blues for Ben, arranged by Pilafian?  Boston Brass first heard it played by Bonerama - a trombone and rhythm ensemble.  Find out more about that group here.  What a great piece!  Andrew Hitz was positively virtuosic on tuba in the Boston Brass rendition!

Chamber Music Repertoire in the Whittaker Library

Instrumentalists at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - this is for you!

It's no secret - there's a way of finding repertoire for your chamber ensemble (anything from two to nine players) in the Whittaker Library Catalogue.

It works the same as putting things in inverted commas in Google.  You enter the instrumentation of your ensemble, top down, and put quotation marks at the beginning and end.  So, here are a couple of examples:-

"Violin2, viola1, violoncello1" - RESULTS CLICK HERE
"Flute1, oboe1, clarinet1, bassoon1, horn1" - RESULTS CLICK HERE

Sometimes you will also retrieve bigger ensembles that include your own one.  Consider them a bonus!!

Please do ask the library staff if you need help working out the code for your ensemble.

Actors at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - info about the Cast Index will be posted next!
