http://www.knightfolk.com/

We're posting this to help promote what's sure to be a good morning's entertainment:-

Wighton Heritage Centre, Central Library, Wellgate, Dundee
Saturday 18th March 2017, 11am (doors open 10.30am)

Cappuccino Concert with singer/songwriter Bob Knight

"Bob Knight is a singer from Aberdeen who has slowly but surely been making a name for himself in the world of folk and traditional music. He comes from a long line of traditional singers and musicians, and is related to many of the great traditional singers from North East Scotland. He is well known in North East Scotland folk circles as a singer and writer of songs in traditional style, having performed at most of the local clubs, and festivals, including many events at Aberdeen University’s Elphinstone Institute. Bob doesn’t just confine himself to his home patch though, and has played all over Scotland, and  in 2013 he performed in a series of highly successful concerts at the prestigious Whitby Folk Week, in Yorkshire.
"In August 2013, Bob released his second CD, “Songs From My Tradition,”
this time ringing the changes by recording Scottish traditional unaccompanied songs. Future projects include another CD, of Scottish folk favourites, “Fields Of Home,” recorded with his brother Willie Knight, and the eagerly awaited third solo album, which will feature Bob’s best known and requested original songs.

Tickets £5 at door, tea/coffee available for small donation."

Online Search Facility for Scottish Music in Wighton Collection, Dundee

Great News!

Friends of Wighton have made a temporary search facility for the Wighton Database.  Andrew Wighton was a Victorian collector of Scottish music.  His entire collection was  bequeathed to the City, in Dundee Central Library, and is kept in a fabulous newly-created space.  A few years ago the collection was catalogued online, and all the songs and tunes in every book were listed on the Wighton Database.

For a while, this database has been off-line and unsearchable, although Google sometimes retrieved its contents.

So this NEW temporary search page is a great blessing!  Our congratulations to the Friends of Wighton for making this happen.

Andrew Wighton: Scottish music books

Do you know about the Wighton Centre, Dundee Central Library's historic Scottish music book collection?

Andrew Wighton collected Scottish music books in the mid-19th century, and gifted his collection to the City of Dundee.  A specially dedicated Centre has recently been built to house his music and promote Scottish music events.

The Friends of Wighton support the Centre.  Find out more here

(There is also a Wighton Database; but sadly, it's not up and running just now. Watch this space - 'Whittaker' will let you know if (when) it is resurrected.  It was a really, REALLY useful resource, so hopefully it won't be down for long.)
