What's Shakespeare Got to Do with Nationalism?

Ben Fletcher-Watson, one of our Royal Conservatoire of Scotland researchers, has uploaded his article about nationhoods and nationalisms in academic publishing, onto the scholarly social media site, Academia.edu.

So what do YOU consider Scottish?

So - what IS 'Scottish Music'?  It's all a question of cultural perception, isn't it?

Karen spoke at a recent RMA  Colloquium about what our perceptions of "Scottish" actually are.  Here are her slides for, "Scottish, Scotch and Caledonian".

Blogger Bibliolore today offers us a posting about  Blake and Jerusalem.

Composer Hubert Parry wrote a stirring setting of William Blake's words, which has become one of England's favourite hymns.  Not universally, even in England, though.  Read on ....

Beyond England's green and pleasant lands, followers of Bibliolore (and of Whittaker Live) should understand that nationalism rears its ugly head when the hymn 'Jerusalem' is even mentioned in Scottish churches!

Library History Essay Prize

The eponymous 'Whittaker' of the Whittaker Library (aka Karen McAulay) published an article about cultural nationalism in national song collections, in Library and Information History journal (2010).
