This week DTP released a further list of titles as part of their partnership with BBC Active, expanding the list of curriculum-mapped texts and insights available on Digital Theatre+.

Along with expanding their collection Shakespeare's Histories ever further, they now proudly release the full first season of the BBC's Shakespeare Uncovered series, in which theatrical heavyweights, including Sir Trevor Nunn, Joely Richardson and Jeremy Irons, share insights and enquiries into their favourite plays.  Explore the BBC Collection.

You know how we love Digital Theatre Plus, here at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.  And there's interest in Shakespeare too, of course.  So we welcome the news that Digital Theatre Plus has struck a deal with the BBC Shakespeare Archive. You Won't Believe What Shakespeare Has Done Now!

School’s results go from Bottom to top, thanks to Shakespeare

This was in today's Guardian.  The Royal Shakespeare Company has been working with schools to get Shakespeare used more in the curriculum.  In an unremarkable school in Thanet, Kent, remarkable things are happening.  Even in other unrelated subjects! Read on! 

This is sure to make teachers sit up, whatever subject they teach.  Any of our alumni working in drama education have a head-start, you would imagine.  And it reinforces the power of active learning, as far as our pedagogues are concerned.

 

Out Now: an Interview with Dominic Cooke

Director Dominic Cooke has a wealth of experience in staging both classic and contemporary theatre, having worked at the RSC before an eight-year tenure as Artistic Director of new writing playhouse the Royal Court.

On Digital Theatre Plus, Dominic talks of his surprise at being approached by Sam Mendes to bring four Shakespeares to the small screen in The Hollow Crown, why directing Shakespeare is a particular craft, and what a theatre director can bring to film.

Shakespeare in Russia - Shakespeare and Scotland

Shakespeare on the Russian Stage: Photographic Exhibition

In celebration of Shakespeare 400, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in collaboration with The Russian State Art Library,  with kind support of the Art Fund present an exhibition of images from the state art collections of the Russian Federation - “Shakespeare on the Russian Stage”.  The exhibition highlights Shakespeare as an international figure in world drama, with photographs and drawing images from Theatre Yugo-Zapad, Theatre Satirikon and the Moscow Arts Theatre among others.  The exhibition is in two parts with images of Hamlet, which is the most performed play globally and also a digital display of other Shakespearean productions in Russia.

The exhibition will run in the Cafe Bar until the 26th May 2016.

A complementary exhibition has been mounted to share some of our Shakespearean Ephemera from the Conservatoire's Archives and Collections.  On Level 2, round the corner from the Whittaker Library.

The symposium aims to explore the relationship and dialogue between Shakespeare and Scotland, to explore different approaches to adapting Shakespeare for the Scottish stage and, above all, to celebrate the Shakespeares of Scotland. RCS Archive exhibition "Singers of the Century" opens in Moscow with a concert.

           "Singers of the Century", an RCS archive exhibition at the Russian State Art Library

As part of an exhibition exchange between The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland  (RCS) and the Russian State Art Library.  An exhibition opened on the 5th February in Moscow based around signed images of opera singers which are a part of the RCS Archive collections.  For the opening of the exhibition, RCS opera student Olga Ivakina organised a small concert based around the repertoire of the singers represented, with Oksana Lesnichya from the Bolshoy and her piano player Dmitry Onischenko. Olga also gave a talk about exhibition and about being a student at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

In return, The Russian State Art Library will exhibit an exhibition "Shakespeare on the Russian Stage" in The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in April and May 2016.   Alan Jones DDPS Librarian
