The University of Strathclyde presents The Keith Wright Theatre Talks with Ronan O'Donnell - 1st February 2017, at Tron Theatre.  Further info:-  "... a series of discussions between Keith Wright Literary Fellow Alan McKendrick and some of the most idiosyncratic artists operating in theatre today. ... And Residential Musicians ...

Enterprise Music Scotland is offering chamber musicians the opportunity to take part in ‘Creative Exchange’.  This is the chance of a residency - surely every musician's dream.  Further info:- "The dates of the residency are 6^th – 9^th March 2017.... formally express your interest by completing the brief application form ... which will help ascertain which ensembles will benefit most from participation.  [...]  attach a summary of your work to date as an ensemble, this may take the form of a short biog or CV." Would You Like to Go to the Antarctic? A Genuine Opportunity for Artists and Creatives

We saw this intriguing tweet over the weekend.  It's for real - a residency in the Antarctic!  So how about it, composers?  Or CPP practitioners?

Want to work with the sounds of the Antarctic? Why not pitch your idea to the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship? 

"The Australian Antarctic Division administers the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship, enabling those with a non-science focus to experience Antarctica and Australia's activities there, so that they may communicate this unique experience and understanding to other Australians.  Applications are now open for the current round. Applications must be submitted via the online application form, by Monday 30 March 2015 at 4pm AEDST.

"Information for applicants - The program aims to nurture the production of excellent and significant works of art and interpretation by professionals in the creative arts, humanities and social sciences [...]

"Some applications under the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship may be accepted from citizens of other Antarctic Treaty nations.* These applicants must have the support of their own nation’s Antarctic program, and must be able to demonstrate a capacity to reach a significant audience, preferably including a significant Australian audience."

*Lots of countries, including the UK, are signed up to the Antarctic Treaty.

Stan Winston School of Character Arts

Staff and students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland have a new online resource via the Whittaker Library: the library has taken out a subscription to the

Stan Winston School of Character Arts, online training with the worlds finest FX artists and technicians

Access is via username and password (which staff and students can get from the library), and the subscription only allows one login at a time, so please logout when you have finished!

Staff and students can also access this resource using library portals, and from the library website http://www.rcs.ac.uk/aboutus/libraryandit/databases.html

Artists' Development Conference - and we MISSED it!

Whittaker is kicking himself.

He missed all mention of the EFDSS 2013 Artists' Development Conference.  It might be the English Folk Dance and Song Society, but artist development is what we're all about, here at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland!

Research into Scottish fiddle-tune accompaniments

This seems an appropriate image to illustrate the Bass Culture research project I'm assisting with.  (It is part of a bigger picture by David Allan, called A Highland Wedding at Blair Atholl.)

 What I and my colleagues at the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge are seeking to establish, is what the cellist was playing, what patterns we can identify, and how it changed during the 18th-early 19th centuries.  Here's our brand-new blog, including a fab picture of the research team.

And here's another nice one called The Penny Wedding, by Sir David Wilkie.  His preliminary sketch shows the musicians more clearly.
