Ignatius of Loyola

Above is the trailer for a historical Roman Catholic drama shot in English in the Philippines about the life of  Saint Ignatius of Loyola, it stars former acting RCS graduate Andreas Muñoz.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola was a Spanish priest and theologian, who founded the religious order called the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and became its first Superior General, he was often called 'The Saint of Second Chances.'

Ignatius is remembered as a talented spiritual director. He recorded his method in a celebrated treatise called the Spiritual Exercises, a simple set of meditations, prayers, and other mental exercises, first published in 1548.

Andreas as an acting student was great user of the drama library when he was a student at RCS.  He would be happy to know that when the film is published later this summer on DVD we will be first to buy it for the library DVD collection.  

The Making of Ignacio De Loyola

A look behind the making of "IGNACIO DE LOYOLA" a modern and very human take on the story of St. Ignatius of Loyola.  This short documentary will be of interest to technical and production students as it shows many different technical aspects of creating a film set to represent 1500s Spain.

Burns - a Poet for the 21st Century

Exciting! Mahler Manuscripts Online from Ontario

Our professional association, the International Association of Music Libraries, shared this interesting news with us earlier this week.  Considering very few musicians ever get the chance to view original Mahler manuscripts 'in the flesh', the chance to see five manuscripts digitized online is a very exciting proposition indeed.

(And what's more - the Director of Talbot College's Music Library at Western University, Ontario, is an alumnus of the RCS, or RSAMD as it was called back then.  Brian McMillan graduated as Master of Opera in 1995)!

The Music Library of Western University (London, Ontario, Canada) is pleased to announce the arrival online of 5 music manuscripts from the Gustav Mahler-Alfred Rosé Collection: https://archive.org/details/mahlerrose. These 5 manuscripts, in Mahler's hand or annotated by Mahler, include:

• some of the earliest songs composed by Mahler (5 [sic: 3] Lieder Josephinen zueignet)

• the first movement, scherzo, and finale of the earliest extant score of Mahler's 1st Symphony.  (This was analyzed in Stephen McClatchie's 1996 article "The 1889 Version of Mahler's First Symphony: A New Manuscript Source" (19th-Century Music 20, no. 2 (1996): 99-124).
