• Dance Workshop 10.30 AM to 4.30 PM (£20)
• Regency Ball 7.30-9.30 PM (£8/£6 or £5 with Workshop ticket)

• Venue:  Scottish Storytelling Centre, 43-45 High Street, Edinburgh, with live music on period instruments throughout the day from members of Concerto Caledonia.

All welcome! Low-heeled shoes or dance pumps recommended ~ Regency dress suggested but not required for the ball.

Intangible Cultural Heritage is a bit of a buzzword in creative circles these days.  A few weeks ago, the Scottish Storytelling Centre held a workshop about the kind of cultural heritage that you can't physically touch, or see, but rather experience as part of oral or inherited tradition.  Read a delegate's reflections after the event, here.

'Whittaker' was all set to tell you about the St Andrew's Day events in the Scottish Storytelling Centre this week, when we realised that the Scottish Storytelling Centre has a shiny new website that deserves a fanfare all of its own.

Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland

The Scottish Storytelling Centre can now be found online at Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland.  This encompasses traditional music, storytelling, and traditional dance - a combination that truly is a marriage made in heaven! We'll let the website speak for itself:-

"Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland (TRACS) was established in 2012 to bring together Scotland's performance traditions - storytelling, music and dance - under a new umbrella. TRACS aims to encourage collaboration between these three art forms, share resources for effective promotion of Traditional Arts activities and to develop partnerships with other organisations that can benefit from our resources. Read more ..."

• CDs (we just searched on Burns as Author.  More results using a keyword search.)
• Robert Burns in our book collections

Late 18th/early 19th century collaborators with Burns included James Johnson (of Scots Musical Museum fame), and George Thomson.  Thomson got Burns' lyrics set by famous Continental musicians like Haydn, Beethoven and Kozeluch.

You could also look him up in one of our databases, like Oxford Music Online (for info), Naxos or Classical Music Library (streaming services).  See what's available to our staff and students here.
