There's a useful page about 12 key Scottish plays, in the National Library of Scotland Digital Gallery. Whilst you won't find the play texts themselves, there's lots of useful commentary, and other informative audiovisual resources. Clicking on any play title takes you to lots more material about that play.
The Digital Gallery is essentially a portal to lots of electronic resources, based on material held by the NLS. The 12 key Scottish plays is just one of the many resources offered. Maybe you'll think of other plays that would come into your own "top 12", of course. See what you think!

Free Digitized Scottish Music! Visit the NLS Digital Gallery ...
We just thought we'd remind you about this great resource, hosted by the National Library of Scotland to highlight some of their precious heritage ....
The Digital Gallery has a huge variety of digitised materials, free to download. Scottish music is just one of the resources on offer. There's a Verdi collection too. Step outside the world of music, and there's ten times more.

See, I'm Looking for this Old Scottish Song ...
A few years ago, the National Library of Scotland ran a pilot project to start indexing Scottish songs in early printed collections. Sadly, the test project didn't carry on to finish indexing every Scottish song in their collections, but it's still a useful resource. (Further funding would be required to see the whole thing through.)
We understand that the pilot database includes about 350 incipit titles and around 20,000 bibliographic title references. However, we don't know how many publications are completely listed in the pilot.

Old Scottish Music Online (visit a Digital Gallery)
Another of the great offerings by the National Library of Scotland. The 'Digital Gallery' is the name for a wide range of different digital collections. Of course, one of the great things about digital collections is that they're accessible online, so although going to the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh is a great experience, you can still access all this wonderful stuff from your own online device.
The one of overwhelming interest to Scottish musicians is their Special Collections of Printed Music
Two big collections of old sheet music have been professionally digitized. One collection belonged to Scottish music collector John Glen, and the other to Alexander Wood Inglis. There are hundreds of digitized scores of traditional music repertoire.
This is more than worth a look - it's essential reading!

Caledonian Pocket Companion just THERE, on my laptop!
Whittaker is getting over-excited. The National Library of Scotland's Digital Gallery is that good!
Right now, he has found the Caledonian Pocket Companion - all the notes, nice and clear, for a multitude of 18th century famous Scottish tunes. What's not to love?! And you can download the whole thing.
Here's 'The lass of Patie's Mill'
And here's the whole Digitized Gallery Special Collections of Printed Music. If you need historic Scottish music, this is a fabulous place to start. It's really useful for our AHRC Bass Culture project, too.)
