John Adams Turns 70

John Adams turned 70 on 15th February and this is being celebrated during the 2016/17 season with over 400 performances around the world. It will cumulate with the world premiere of his new opera Girls of the Golden West in California, November and December 2017. Sir James MacMillan Month in Glasgow

This coming March is Sir James MacMillan month in Glasgow. Nine concerts will take place to celebrate the long association with MacMillan and the city which will include students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. More information about the concerts and MacMillan is available from Boosey and Hawkes news page. The Whittaker Library has an array of material by MacMillan which you can find here. So why not start having a look in preparation for March!

Peter Maxwell Davies reaches 80 in 2014

Boosey and Hawkes featured a few of Max's compositions on the front page of their paper bulletin, Quarternotes, and there is already a webpage in anticipation of 'Max's big birthday:-

This month in Edinburgh, you can hear James Macmillan's A Child's Prayer, at St Cuthbert's Church (16.6.2012)

And in August you can hear a world premiere of his Since it was the Day of Preparation ..., in Greyfriar's Church (22.8.2012).

They want you to know

'Whittaker' gets sent information, links, CDs, on a regular basis. It's all because the senders want you, our borrowers, to know what they've got to offer.

Today:-

  • CMC CD: Contemporary Music from Ireland Vol.10 - the CD was released in December, and we received a free one today. Which will be catalogued very soon ... check the catalogue here
  • We have also received a Knuston Hall programme of courses and events.  Might be of interest to your private pupils, friends or relatives.
  • And a copy of Boosey and Hawkes' Quarternotes newsletter about new releases.  (You can also read about Boosey's composers online, too.  Just click the link)
