Glasgow and Strathclyde, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Glasgow School of Art all have enviably high employment statistics.  Glasgow Caledonian (GCU) tops them all - and they all give Oxford and Cambridge a run for their money!

Play: Bronte, by Polly Teale

In much the same way as I tell our musicians that they can enjoy our DVDs for relaxation, whilst the acting students are contemplating issues of direction and production, today I'm sharing a discussion about the play, Bronte, by Polly Teale.  It's a book we have in stock here at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Whittaker Library.  (Catalogue entry)

The discussion appears on The Journal of Victorian Culture Online.  Whilst Victorianists engage in scholarly discourse about the deeper cultural issues, there is probably much here that will interest acting and drama students on a different level.

Originally staged by Shared Experience in 2005 (of which you can view a short trailer online), the play explores the life and writing of the Brontës through key episodes from their lives and scenes from their writing.  I went to watch the production with fellow Victorianist and life-writing specialist Amber Regis ..."  Read more here ...

Director Lynne Denig has assembled a team of Paul Rolland's students to share his string teaching methods. Paul Rolland's book "The Teaching of Action in String Playing" is the textbook for the workshop, and the DVD of his film series by the same name is used to give participants an in-depth understanding of his pedagogical principles. College credit through George Mason University is available for those who need it. The workshop embraces professional string teachers, college music students, and interested high school students. Current enrolment includes participants in all categories.  Peter 'Doc' Rolland will be teaching evening classes in fiddling.
