Debut performance for young band formed in honour of music legend featuring The Gordon Duncan Experience Old Blind Dogs Willie McCallum Xose Manuel Budino Pitlochry and Blair Atholl Pipe Band Seumas Begley and Tim Edey Gordon Duncan Jr

Nineteen young musicians debut new Celtic big band The Gordon Duncan Experience, on the Perth Concert Hall stage at the A National Treasure IV concert. A National Treasure is held annually in celebration of the musical genius and lasting legacy of the late Pitlochry piper Gordon Duncan.

• Aged from 12-17
• Including piano, pipes, fiddle, cello, flute, mandolin, percussion and guitar
• Musically directed by Corrina Hewat and Dave Milligan
• Newly-commissioned pieces from Calum MacCrimmon and Patsy Reid, Martyn Bennett’s epic MacKay’s Memoirs as well as some of Gordon’s own tunes.

Sharing the bill, the top-quality international line up includes master piper Willie McCallum, the brilliant Galician gaita player Xose Manuel Budino, larger than life County Kerry accordionist and Gaelic singer Seamas Begley accompanied by ace guitarist Tim Edey, Gordon Duncan Jr performing some of his own songs and Old Blind Dogs – one of Scotland’s finest folk bands.

Music E-books for Whittaker Library

The RSAMD Whittaker Library endeavours to hold all items on RSAMD reading lists. E-books were first available to Drama students in 2009-2010. The new 2010-2011 session will see e-books for Music students as well. E-books have been added to stock for any reading-listed music textbooks available in this format.

Researchers of Tomorrow is a 3-year study tracking the research behaviour of 'Generation Y' doctoral students. The study is sponsored by the British Library and JISC, with the following aims:-

The study is tracking young doctoral students' (those born between 1982 - 1994) information-seeking behaviour, analysing their habits in online and physical research environments and assessing their usage of library and information sources on and off line.

4,000 ballads from 18th and 19th century Wales Cardiff University & National Library of Wales

A new website

Historic Welsh ballads online for a new global audience

• Documenting important issues of the day - workers' rights, crime, local festivals, village gossip...
• Funded by JISC, the project has completed a network of digital resources giving access to these precious documents.
• around 15,000 pages of rare Welsh and English language ballads (words, not music) now available to study and enjoy.

Ben Showers, programme manager at JISC, said: The Welsh Ballads project puts in place the final piece of a national jigsaw of digitised ballads. Adding to the ballad collections of England and Scotland this new archive will help make this a unique and indispensable resource for researchers, students and interested members of the public.
