The Whittaker Library at RSAMD has heard about a useful new book called The Savvy Musician. It promises to offer loads of useful info about the whole business of being a professional musician. We're ordering it this week.
There's also a Savvy Musician Bookstore, accessible through Amazon.com, so if this topic interests you, do stop by and see what they have to offer.

British Library Archival Sound Recordings

Any student or teacher at RSAMD can login to the British Library's Archival Sound Recordings website. For example, Scottish Music students might care to hear "Auld lang syne" recorded on ethnographical wax cylinders way back in 1898! Is it just me, or is there something uniquely thrilling about listening to something recorded not just in the last century, but the one before that? Apologies to Dr Who and the Tardis, but this is the closest to time-travel that most of us will ever come.

E-Journals

Is technology creeping up on you? Have your tutors suggested that you dip your toes into the murky waters of electronic journals? It's really not difficult! If you'd like some help getting started, or just want to pick up a 'How to' handout, please contact Karen McAulay or Alan Jones (Music & Drama Librarians respectively.) Or go straight to the Electronic Journals page on the Library website. We're happy to arrange group instruction - just ask your class tutor.
