Joan Armatrading comes to RSAMD!

Joan Armatrading is a legendary singer-songwriter who made her name on the folk circuit at a time when black women singers had a lot less recognition in the UK. And she's singing in Glasgow at RSAMD on Wednesday 25 June. Have you bought your ticket? (Two days later, she'll be doing a one-off gig in London, and theLondonblog is waxing lyrical already - some indication of the treat that's in store. And she's coming here first!)

Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music

McCann Research Fellowship £5000 p.a. one year research grant. The Royal Academy of Music in partnership with the Lucille Graham Trust invites applications for this award, commencing Oct 2008 for one year. The Fellow will have the opportunity to base their research on material in the McCann Collection at RAM. The McCann Collection consists of letters and documents, photographic materials, ephemera, recordings, playbills and programmes from the 19th and 20th centuries. For more details and digitised images, see APOLLO (Academy Pictures Online). The McCann Fellow will be expected to disseminate his or her research by publication, and by presenting a research event. The applicant should be educated to music graduate or music research student standard. Experience of performance research and knowledge of foreign languages will be an advantage. All candidates are required to submit a short research proposal (1000-2000 words) with their application for consideration.
