Traditional song and dance : The James Madison Carpenter Collection

The Universities of Sheffield and Aberdeen have provided input into the online catalogue for the James Madison Carpenter Collection. The Collection is a major collection of traditional song and drama, plus some items of traditional instrumental music, dance, custom, narrative and children's folklore, from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the USA, documented in the period 1927-55, by American James Madison Carpenter . The Collection was purchased from Carpenter in 1972 by the Library of Congress. Getting it properly mounted as an online database was a must, and the AHDS (Arts and Humanities Data Service) here in the UK has been closely involved in the project. Here's the link for searching the collection - (http://www.hrionline.ac.uk/carpenter/search.html)
